Death of a Mora

I snapped a Mora today.

Of course i was abusing it somewhat with a spot of light batoning. It was a 2/0 the little one thats perfect for a necker.

I buried it at the edge of a resivoir where me and it have had so many good times together. It will probably be rusted to nothing in a few years.

Rest in peace little guy it was good while it lasted. Now to buy another.

I used my dead cheap Mora Clipper (I paid 10 quid I think a few years ago) for batoning for the first time last week. I wanted to prove to myself that it was possible to make all the components for a bow drill set from wood I found in the woods and only using my knife. Previously I used random bits of timber I've found in the garden or shed for the base board/hearth. It worked okay, except that I'd not got a smoking coal from the set so far.

More and more people are breaking moras. It just goes to show they are not the indestructible knife that a lot claim and like anything else if you actually USE it it will wear out! I think we have to realise although they are a very good knife with a minimal price tag, they are a mass produced item and some prays actually collect them as if they are going to be worth money some day lol!! It's like collecting ikea cutlery!
